Ben Dos Santos running the London Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK
Ben Dos Santos, a paralegal in our Property team, is taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday 22 April in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
He is taking on the 26.2 mile challenge through the streets of London to raise money for the charity and awareness about dementia, a cause close to his heart. Ben said:
‘Since my granddad got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it made me much more aware of the terrible effects that it has. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia, which is a devastating disease that attacks a person’s brain and over time strips everything away from them which makes them who they are. Over 850,000 people live with dementia in the UK and that number is rapidly rising. Dementia is now Britain’s biggest killer, with one in three people over the age of 65 dying with dementia.
What a lot of people don’t know is that dementia is not just a natural part of ageing. It is actually caused by physical diseases and therefore it can be defeated. This will only be made possible through research.’
He aims to raise £3,000 and has nearly hit his target. He has supported his fundraising with raffles, bake sales and a very successful quiz night. To support Ben, please visit his fundraising page: www.virginmoneygiving.com/bendossantos
